Privacy Policy for GetStatus

Effective date: September 24, 2026
Updated: September 24, 2026

WHO WE ARE

GetStatus ("the App") is an independent Android application. "We" and "us" in this policy mean the developer of GetStatus, who can be reached at:

  Email: humbalkuldeep54@gmail.com

We are the data controller for the limited information described below.

This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles information when you use it.

THE SHORT VERSION

Everything you create or capture in the App stays on your device. Status media, recovered messages, saved files and private copies of media are processed entirely on your phone and are never uploaded to us or to anyone else. We run no servers and hold no data of that kind about you, so there is no account, no profile, and none of your content for us to hand over or lose.

The App is free and is funded by advertising served by Google AdMob: banner ads at the bottom of some screens, a full-screen ad on the launch screen while the App opens, a full-screen ad when you save something out of the video editor - a video, a split part, or an audio track extracted from a video - and never when you split a video, never when you post one, and never while you are editing, and a full-screen ad when you add a sticker pack to WhatsApp from the sticker maker. To show these ads, the App includes Google's advertising SDK and uses the Internet permission, and the ad SDK collects a device advertising identifier and related technical data as described under ADVERTISING below. The App also reports anonymous usage statistics - how many people open it, which screens they reach, whether it is working - through Google Analytics for Firebase, described under ANALYTICS below. Those two things are all that leaves your device: none of your statuses, saved files, recovered messages or any other content you create in the App is ever transmitted. An optional paid subscription, GetStatus Premium, removes the ads and unlocks a few extra features; payment for it is handled entirely by Google Play, and we never see your payment details (see PURCHASES AND SUBSCRIPTIONS below).

INFORMATION WE DO NOT COLLECT

 - No personal information (name, email, phone number, contacts)
 - No account or sign-in of any kind
 - No personal information is collected by us. Ads from Google AdMob are shown, and the AdMob SDK collects a device advertising identifier and related technical data to serve and measure them - see ADVERTISING below. Anonymous usage statistics are reported through Google Analytics for Firebase - see ANALYTICS below. We ourselves still run no servers, and none of your content ever reaches us
 - No precise location data
 - No status media, saved files, filenames, or message content transmitted off the device, ever

WHO RECEIVES DATA

We run no servers of our own. The App includes two Google components. Google AdMob, to show ads (the banners, the full-screen ad on the launch screen, and the occasional full-screen ad after an export or when you add a sticker pack to WhatsApp), receives a device advertising identifier and related technical data (see ADVERTISING). Google Analytics for Firebase reports anonymous usage statistics, which we see only as aggregate counts and charts (see ANALYTICS). If you buy the optional subscription, Google Play processes the payment and shares none of your payment details with us (see PURCHASES AND SUBSCRIPTIONS). No content of yours - statuses, saved files, recovered messages, media copies - is ever sent to us or to any third party, including Google. The direct-chat screen hands the phone number and message you type straight to WhatsApp, in the same way as a share, and the App stores neither; a recovered chat you export is written to a file only when you ask, and goes only where you send it.

PERMISSIONS THE APP USES AND WHY

The App requests only the permissions needed for its features:

Internet: used only by Google AdMob to fetch ads and report ad measurement. The App never uses it to upload, back up, or transmit any of your statuses, saved files, or captured messages - those stay on the device.

Storage and folder access: used to read status media that other apps store on your device, to save copies you choose into your gallery, and - if you turn on the recovery features below - to read the messaging app's received photos and videos so the App can keep on-device copies. The App does not request Android's "Photos and videos" permission. On Android 11 and above it reads only folders you pick yourself in Android's own folder picker: the WhatsApp status folder, so it can show your statuses, and - for recovering deleted photos and videos - WhatsApp's own media folder, which the App reads to keep private on-device copies of newly received photos and videos. On older Android versions it uses the storage-read permission instead; voice-note recovery uses Android's audio-read permission. The optional WhatsApp cleaner uses the same WhatsApp media folder access so it can list those files by kind and size and delete the ones you tick; deleting them removes them from WhatsApp's chats as well, which happens only after you confirm, and the App reads nothing from those files beyond their names, sizes and dates (plus a small sample of the contents of same-sized files when you look for duplicates), all on your device. The App does not request or hold the "All files access" permission, and you can review or revoke any of this at any time in system settings or by clearing the App's data. All of this happens entirely on your device.

Notification access (optional, off until you grant it): used only for the "Recover deleted messages" feature. If you grant this access in system settings, the App reads incoming WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business message notifications (the sender or chat name, the message text, and the time) and stores them privately on your device, so a message stays readable even if the sender later deletes it. Notifications from every other app are ignored. Nothing read from notifications ever leaves your device. You can revoke this access at any time in system settings, and turning the feature off inside the App deletes everything it has captured privately - the stored message text and the working copies of media. Photos and videos it had already saved into the "GetStatus/Recovered" folder in your gallery are your own files and stay there until you delete them, from the App, your gallery, or a file manager (see DATA STORED ON YOUR DEVICE).

Notification posting: used only to tell you when the App has caught a message or media that was deleted - the notification names the chat or sender it came from, exactly as shown in the original WhatsApp notification - so you can open it before it is pruned. You can turn these off in your system notification settings.

Keep device awake: after a message arrives, the App may keep the device awake for a few seconds so it can finish making its private on-device copy of newly received media before the device goes back to sleep. This is used only by the "Recover deleted messages" feature.

App visibility: used only to detect whether the relevant messaging app is installed, and to open or share media with apps you choose. Nothing about which apps you have installed is recorded or transmitted.

All file reading, viewing, capturing, and saving happens locally on your device. No file, message, filename, or any other content of yours is ever uploaded or transmitted.

DATA STORED ON YOUR DEVICE

App settings (such as language and theme preferences) are stored locally on your device and are removed if you uninstall the App.

Saved statuses are copies of media you explicitly choose to save. They are placed in your device's gallery and remain under your control; you can delete them at any time using your gallery or file manager.

Recovered messages and deleted media (optional feature): while "Recover deleted messages" is switched on, the App keeps captured message text and copies of recently received photos and videos so they remain available if the sender deletes them. About these copies:

 - the App never uploads any of them anywhere;
 - the captured message text is kept in the App's internal storage, which no other app can read;
 - working copies of media are kept in the App's own folder under Android/data (on Android 11 and above this is inaccessible to other apps; on Android 8 to 10, an app you have granted storage permission could in principle read it), are deleted automatically after 7 days, are capped at 500 MB with the oldest removed first, and are excluded from Android's automatic cloud backup, so the App never copies them to your Google Drive;
 - when a photo or video is confirmed to have been deleted for you, the App also saves that one copy into a "GetStatus/Recovered" folder inside your device's Pictures, so it is not lost if you clear the App's data or reinstall the App. Because this folder is part of your shared storage, it appears in your gallery, other apps that have media access can read it, and it may be included in any gallery or photo backup you have turned on yourself (for example Google Photos). These are ordinary files you own: you can delete them at any time from the App, your gallery, or a file manager;
 - turning the feature off, or using the clear button inside the App, deletes the captured text and the App's working copies immediately;
 - uninstalling the App removes the message log and the App's private copies. Copies already saved into your Pictures/GetStatus and Pictures/GetStatus/Recovered folders stay in your gallery, like any other photo, until you delete them.

Older statuses (optional feature): if you enable "Keep older statuses", the App keeps private copies of statuses you have seen in its app-private storage for up to 7 days, so you can still view them after they expire. These copies follow the same rules as above.

ADVERTISING

The App shows banner advertisements at the bottom of some screens, a full-screen advertisement on the launch screen while the App is opening - it appears over the loading screen, and the App continues to Home as soon as you close it or if no advertisement arrives - and, after you finish exporting a video in the editor, a full-screen advertisement when you save something out of the editor - a video, a split part, or an extracted audio track - and never when you split a video, never when you post one, and never while you are editing, and a full-screen advertisement when you add a sticker pack to WhatsApp from the sticker maker, all provided by Google AdMob (Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC). This is how the App stays free.

To serve and measure these ads, the AdMob SDK collects and shares with Google a device advertising identifier (the resettable Advertising ID) together with technical data such as your device type, general (coarse) location inferred from your IP address, and ad-interaction events (an ad was shown, tapped, etc.). This is standard for apps that show AdMob ads. Google acts as an independent controller of that data; its use is governed by Google's Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy) and its Advertising policies.

What the ad SDK does NOT receive: none of your statuses, saved files, recovered messages, captured notification text, or private media copies. Those never leave your device and are never shared with Google or anyone else.

Your choices:
 - Reset or delete your Advertising ID at any time in your device settings (typically Settings > Privacy > Ads). Deleting it stops apps, including this one, from receiving a stable advertising identifier.
 - Opt out of personalised ads in the same settings screen; you will still see ads, but not personalised ones.

We do not control what data Google collects through the ad SDK or how Google uses it. While the optional GetStatus Premium subscription is active, the App loads no ads at all. If advertising is ever removed from the App entirely, this policy will be updated and the Internet and advertising-identifier permissions will be dropped again.

ANALYTICS

The App includes Google Analytics for Firebase (Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC). It tells us how many people use the App, which of its features they reach, and whether it is working properly on their device, so we can decide what to fix and what to build next.

What it collects: a randomly generated app instance identifier - not your name, email or phone number, and not the same thing as the Advertising ID - together with your device model, operating-system version, App version, country and language, and basic usage events such as the App being opened for the first time, a session starting, and which screen is on show. Where the App displays an advertisement, the revenue that impression earned is recorded alongside it, so we can see how the free version sustains itself.

What it does NOT collect: none of your statuses, saved files, filenames, recovered messages, captured notification text, contacts, or private copies of media. Nothing you create or capture in the App is ever part of this, and no analytics event carries the content of anything you saved or recovered.

We see this information only in aggregate - counts, charts and totals across everyone who uses the App - and we do not use it to identify you. Google processes it on our behalf under its own terms (policies.google.com/privacy).

Your choices:
 - The identifier this uses is not permanent. Clearing the App's data, or uninstalling and reinstalling the App, resets it and starts a fresh, unconnected record.
 - Uninstalling the App stops the collection entirely.

PURCHASES AND SUBSCRIPTIONS

The App offers one optional purchase: the GetStatus Premium subscription, which removes ads and unlocks the WhatsApp storage cleaner, chat export and animated stickers, billed monthly or yearly depending on the plan you choose, bought through Google Play's billing system. The Premium features run on your device like the rest of the App; subscribing sends none of your content anywhere.

All payment is handled by Google Play (Google LLC / Google Ireland Limited). We never see, receive or store your card, UPI or bank details - Google does not give them to us. Google processes your payment under its own terms and privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy).

The only record the App keeps is a yes/no note on your device of whether the subscription is currently active, which it refreshes by asking Google Play. We run no servers, so we hold no purchase history about you. The subscription is tied to your Google account, so it is restored automatically if you reinstall the App, and you can manage or cancel it at any time in the Play Store under Payments & subscriptions.

OTHER PEOPLE'S MESSAGES AND MEDIA

The recovery feature necessarily holds content created by other people - the text of messages they sent you and their names as shown in the notification. We never receive any of it, and it is never used for any purpose beyond showing it back to you.

Because that content belongs to those people rather than to you, please treat it accordingly: use it only in ways the sender and the law allow, and do not republish or forward it without permission. Depending on where you live, retaining or sharing another person's messages may carry legal obligations of your own.

Before the feature can be switched on, the App shows you a screen explaining exactly what it will read, what it will store, and how long it keeps it. Notification access stays inactive until you grant it in system settings.

DATA SHARING

We do not sell or share your personal information, and we never share any of your content - statuses, saved files, or messages - with anyone. None of your content ever reaches us or any third party. The advertising and analytics data described above is handled by Google as set out in those sections; it is never sold, and it is never combined with anything you keep in the App.

Sharing a saved status or recovered media with another app happens only when you explicitly tap Share, and it uses Android's standard share system under your control.

YOUR RIGHTS AND HOW TO EXERCISE THEM

We operate no servers of our own and hold no account, profile, or content of yours, so for everything you create in the App there is nothing on our side to access, correct, export, or delete - and no account to close. The advertising and analytics data described above is pseudonymous: it is tied to resettable identifiers, not to you, so we cannot identify you or link it back to you. You can reset those identifiers, or stop the collection altogether, using the choices listed under ADVERTISING and ANALYTICS.

To remove data held on your device:

 - Turn off "Recover deleted messages" - this immediately deletes everything it has captured. The clear button inside the App does the same without turning the feature off.
 - Turn off "Keep older statuses" - this immediately deletes the cached expired statuses.
 - Delete saved copies from your gallery or file manager.
 - Uninstalling the App removes all of the above, plus your settings.

If you have a question or complaint about this policy, contact us at the address under CONTACT below and we will respond.

IF YOU ARE IN THE EEA, THE UK OR SWITZERLAND

Controller: the entity named under WHO WE ARE above.

No processing of your personal data takes place on our infrastructure at all, because none of it leaves your device. The App performs no profiling and no automated decision-making.

Your rights: you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict and object to processing, and to data portability, in respect of personal data we hold. As explained above, we hold none. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

International transfers: none. Your content never leaves your device.

Retention: we retain nothing. On-device retention periods are set out under DATA STORED ON YOUR DEVICE.

We do not have an establishment in the EEA or the UK and do not monitor behaviour there, so we have not appointed a representative under Article 27. If that assessment changes, this policy will be updated.

IF YOU ARE A UNITED STATES RESIDENT

We ourselves collect no personal information and sell none. The Google AdMob SDK in the App collects a device advertising identifier and related technical data to serve and measure ads, and shares it with Google for that purpose (see ADVERTISING). You can limit this at any time by resetting or deleting your Advertising ID in your device settings (Settings > Privacy > Ads), which also opts you out of personalised ads. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any privacy right.

SECURITY

We hold no central store of your data, so there is no server-side database to breach - which removes the most common source of privacy incidents entirely.

On your device, the App relies on the Android application sandbox and your device lock screen. The captured message log is kept in the App's internal storage, which other apps cannot read. Please note that it is stored as ordinary text and is not separately encrypted by the App: anyone who can unlock your phone, or who has physical access to an unlocked device, can read it through the App. If that matters to you, keep the recovery feature switched off.

Automatic cloud backup is disabled for this App, so neither the message log nor the private media copies are uploaded to your Google account.

If we become aware of a vulnerability that affects your data, we will fix it and describe the fix in the App's release notes. Where a law requires us to notify users or a regulator of a personal-data breach, we will do so within the period that law prescribes.

CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

The App is intended for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children - or from anyone else, as set out above. If you believe a child has provided information through the App, contact us at the address below and we will address it.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITY

Status media, messages, and media other people send you belong to the people who created them. Please obtain their permission before saving or re-sharing their content, use the recovery features respectfully, and use the App in accordance with applicable laws and the terms of service of the messaging apps you use.

THIRD-PARTY TRADEMARKS

GetStatus is an independent application. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by WhatsApp LLC or Meta Platforms, Inc. All trademarks belong to their respective owners.

CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

If the App's behavior ever changes in a way that affects privacy - for example if advertising or the paid subscription changes - this policy will be updated and the effective date above will change.
